Free vs Paid Resources To Learn English

There is a lot of resources that you can find on the Internet that you can use to learn English and you don’t need to pay one cent to do it, but someone really committed to learn English to a higher level, cannot neglect paid resources. This is precisely what I’m going to talk about in this post. So. One of the biggest beliefs is that learning English is too expensive, and yes it may be. Also I’s very likely that the first thing that you will come across when looking for a good English course, is one that is indeed very expensive.

It is possible to think that the more expensive the course the better, but this is definitely false. Expensive English courses on the Internet are very good, yes, is the truth, but I consider that it’s unnecessary to pay a lot of money to learn English because the same quality of expensive courses you can find it in the free ones, or if not with an affordable price. This is important to highlight it because there are courses or study methods that have an acceptable price and are an excellent way to reach a very good level in English.

Something that is paramount for you to understand is that to learn English you have to pay the price. And I don’t mean only about the money that you are going to invest. Money is only a small part of the truly price that you have to pay. I mean that the real price is paid with a lot of work and dedication. Understanding this is going to be the determining factor in your success when learning English, because it does not matter if you have paid the most expensive course, the best teachers, the best training or the best books, but if you do not understand what is the true price that you will pay, everything is going to be in vain.

It’s very interesting knowing that the best language learners in the world, rarely invest a lot of money in their language education. This is because they’ve got clear the meaning of paying the price to learn a new language. They know that to achieve the objective to learn a foreign language, money it’s not enough. They are willing to make everything that is necessary to get it. I want you to understand that this is something anyone can learn how to do it, although most of the time it is going to be very difficult to accept it. It is understandable because in school we were not taught these kind of things in any moment. But at the end, any person willing to do it can change their mindset and succeed.

In many times free resources are not enough to get a high level in English, and in this moment it is necessary to know how to choose a paid resource before giving the money. In the majority of situations, the companies dedicated to create these paid courses, also offer a free and limited version of the service where it is not necessary to pay any money. These free versions of the courses have a many limitations but will give you a good understanding of what you can expect in the moment when you make the payment. Although, there are courses that don’t give this kind of advantage and the only thing you have to know something about the course is the advertising of the same company, and this may not be very objective. The best thing you can do is make a search in Google about the experience that other people have had when they took the course.

Some pretty popular examples of very expensive courses are the following:

  • Rosetta Stone
  • Open English

In this blog I am not going to spend too much time talking about these paid services and much less the so expensive ones because I want you to know what courses have been useful for me. Additionally, I insist that to learn English, the best way to do it is with affordable resources.

Maybe you are thinking that free resources don’t have the necessary quality to be taken into consideration when deciding to learn English to a higher level. This could be true in the beginnings of the Internet, but now there are outstanding services with amazing quality. I can mention for instance.

  • Duolingo
  • Memrise
  • YouTube (Yes YouTube can be used to learn languages)
  • Language Exchange Forums
  • Social Networks for Language Learners
  • Online Dictionaries
  • Skype
  • Websites with interactive grammar courses
  • Apps

Something that is true is that free websites not always have a modern and nice design or they are not so easy to use either, but that does not mean that they are not excellent. Most of them can be accessed from any basic smartphone. Today I can assert that learning English is something very cheap. You only have to know how to do it and this is exactly what you will learn with this posts.
