Learning English From The Best Language Teachers: The Polyglots

Have you ever felt completely alone and with no idea of who you can ask for help and advice to improve your English? It’s something very disappointing when you feel stuck with English and there is nobody with the capacity to lead you in the language learning process. Many times not even the English teacher is able to give a good advice, because it turns out that he does not speak fluently the language that he is supposed to be highly knowledgeable, and he only gives basic grammar in the classroom, and we know that grammar alone is not very effective. Before Internet, it was a big problem to find an excellent mentor when starting to learn a new language. Now with the Internet, the problem is that people don’t know how to find those mentors, simply because they don’t know how to make a proper search.

Imagine that someone who has learned 10 or 15 languages and is able to speak them fluently is explaining you with full details his learning method. Imagine that he is tutoring you one-on-one, every day and at any time that you need it. Now answer this question. Do you believe that if this were possible, were you be able to learn English to a high level? Think about it for a moment… One more moment… What is your answer? If your answer is yes, I will tell you something. This was the way that I used to learn English to an acceptable level to improve my life. I had the fortune to have at my disposal private tutoring given by people who speak 7 languages, 10 languages, 15 languages, day in and day out, at any time I decided it and they always were willing to do it. I didn’t have to travel to a far place to get the private tutoring and I didn’t have to waste the time of these people that were teaching me their study methods. Now I am going to tell you how you can do it as well.

Firstly, imagine that all of this is possible. That an extraordinary person like these shares all of his secrets, just imagine it as vividly as possible. This person is just in front of you being your mentor, or imagine that you are attending a conference where this person is going to teach the audience how they can learn a new language easier. Would you like that this happen? You only have to find a polyglot. It’s a person who speaks fluently several languages. Well, you can do it just by watching the videos that many of these polyglots have uploaded to YouTube, where they do exactly what I have said. It is not about just watching a video on YouTube that more sooner than later you will forget it. It’s about priceless knowledge that you will learn to appreciate due to the impact that can have in your life. What is the difference in the information that is shared through a video and the one that is shared through one-on-one tutoring? Nothing! It is exactly the same information, but the impact that it is going to make in your learning process is made by your mind. The person that is speaking in the video is not talking to a bunch of people that is visiting YouTube, he or she is talking to you, he or she is giving their advice only to you and your mind can make it real, just believing it is real.

For instance, think about this imaginary example: A very prosperous businessman is going to give a conference about creating your first company and how to make it successful, but the entrance ticket is $5000 to get there in person, however, it is going to be totally broadcasted through YouTube one week later, completely free. Two friends, both potential entrepreneurs, want to get there but only the first one has the $5000, he pays the ticket and shows up at the conference. The second one only has $1000, so he decides, pretty disappointed, not to attend and wait to watch it in YouTube and use the $1000 as a first investment to kick off his own company. Two years later the one who attended the conference did not put in practice anything of what he heard just once at the conference and he keeps being an employee of someone else. But the second one watched the conference on YouTube hundreds of times and put in practice all of the information following a defined and clear plan, and at the end he achieved the creation of his company and became a businessman. Now please analyze this: Was there any difference in the information that both received? Nothing! It was exactly the same, but the difference was the application of the information with concrete actions. It is the same thing with English when you are watching the videos of the polyglots that are telling you how they did it.

It’s unbelievable to have the opportunity to learn from the polyglots on first hand thought YouTube. Many of them have taken to an additional level the art of sharing their secrets, writing books, creating video courses, paid services to learn languages or also with blogs where they write articles about the topic of learning languages. Some of the polyglots that I can mention and that have helped me so much are:

  • Benny Lewis
  • Steve Kaufman
  • Tim Donner
  • Luca Lampariello
  • Olly Richards

With this post I don’t mean that you have to do all of what they say because some things that have worked for them, may not work for you, and this is because all of us learn in different ways. Take the best information from them and ditch the useless information. So easy as that and you will be able to develop your own learning method. Polyglots are people passionate for language learning and are dedicated to it with so much passion that they are not bothered about the hard work when learning a new language. If your passion is not learning languages, then you will not learn at the same speed as them, and please never feel bad about it. This is very important take it into account.

In the description of the video you will find the links to the channels of the polyglots that have helped me personally. But the videos that they are sharing are almost only in English. Don’t worry if you don’t fully understand, most of the time it’s enough to understand the main message and that is not complicated. With a very basic level of English you can take advantage of the information in their videos, and take it easy because overtime you will understand them perfectly.
